Brisbane artist Audrey Gibbs still paints prolifically at 91 and recently held an exhibition of forty artworks. Originally from Maryborough she attended Brisbane technical College (now QUT) with prized painter and teacher Melville Haysom as well as Seven Hills College of Art (now QCA). In 1987 she went on a study tour of Russia and China. Audrey Gibbs has been part of many exhibitions including a MacDonnel and East Ipswich exhibition in 1971 and two Ardrossan Gallery exhibitions in 1986 and 1988. She has also received numerous awards for her art including the Brisbane Royal Show in 1979, 1982 and 1987, the Faber-Castell Drawing Prize in 1983 and the Wynne Prize in 1990. She has been a longtime member of the Half Dozen Group of Artists, a group established 70 years ago that promotes the visual arts. At their 70 year anniversary exhibition last year she was chosen to open the event. We are lucky enough to have a few of her pieces in the store.
